. Chicken WingingChicken WingingChicken Winging is a term used to describe the appearance of the lead arm on players who bend theirlead elbow and cup their lead wrist through impact. The lead arm resembles the wing of a chicken, hence the name. Normally, the lead arm is extended through impact to create as much width as possible.Width through impact is a key factor in generating club head speed.
Chicken Winging can not onlycreate a loss in power, but it tends to add loft to the club and excessive spin to the golf ball. The Body-Swing Connection™Physical Parameters Causing Chicken Winging and How to Diagnose Them:Chicken Winging is an excessive breakdown of the upper body through impact, but it is the lower bodythat usually causes this common swing characteristic. Whenever the lower body does not generate efficientspeed or does not transfer that speed to the upper body, the arms and hands will try to make up forthat loss in power.
Many times, power and strength deficits in the lower body will lead to ChickenWinging. Also, when the lower body does not initiate the sequence on the downswing, the swing pathcan become steep or Over-the-Top.
Any steepening of the swing plane on the downswing can also leadto Chicken Winging through impact. Loss of external rotation in the lead shoulder can also causeChicken Winging.
External rotation is required for the lead arm to release and rotate normally throughimpact.
So I was shooting in the low 90’s until three weeks ago. Then I couldn’t get off the tee without slicing and drives were going 150 yards. I tried a lot of stuff to get rid of that slice but nothing was working.
Till I watched this tip. Now my slice is gone and I’m carrying drives 190 to 220 which is even better that I was doing before. There is a definite snap back in my drive and I’m hitting more in the center than not. My irons have moved up too. My 7 is carrying 140 to 150 now. Before 110 to 120.
What the hell happened? П™‚ Oh, and I know this because I have a SkyTrack I’m not just guessing where the ball is landing on the driving range. Hi Paul, been a member for 3 years & still working to get better! After swinging with my arms for about 34 years it’s been a struggle to turn them off the last 3, but I’ll get there. Watch your tips each day, bought your original Swing Machine set & have taken Skype lessons with Pete so I’m all in. Always try to work on one thing at a time. Thank you for your help.I’ve got an off topic question but I couldn’t find a more appropriate place to ask.
Now that you’ve had them for a while, do you still like your Sterling Single Length irons? Serendipitously, I was researching them when I saw your review.
I’ve got a fitting on Monday & may pull the trigger. Thanks for any advice. Kevin,Glad you are still with us. It really amazes me that people can’t stop hitting. That ball and wanting to hit the ball a long way is great. You have to start at the bottom and work your way up.
If you don’t do something completely different you will want to go right back to what you have always done.As far as Sterling Irons are concerned, I really like them and I’m still using them. I just find the longer irons so easy to hit. Can’t wait for the 4 iron this fall. No guessing or feeling anything different in your set up for any club. It did take a while to get used to them but now I am at least 10 rounds in and they are feeling great. It took a while because I have hit so many balls over the years.
I grab a pitching wedge and feel I have to get lower yet I don’t which is weird at first. It’s a visual thing too. Longer short clubs and shorter long clubs. You’ll see what I mean.I didn’t like the ring they had to them so I glued a small piece of foam in the back and now they don’t ring.

I highly doubt foam added any measurable weight to the club.I’m so glad I go them. Bob,Glad you like that one. I can’t believe how many people have a chicken wing and are not working on fixing it.
Yes, people do have issues with mats. For me I really don’t mind them but I know others hate them.
Be careful next time. Just do practice swings at home. I don’t need you to hit balls in the winter. 25 practice swings 3 times per week and you will keep your swing (I would be doing daily practice swings trying to make all positions perfect then I would have a perfect swing next season but that’s just me).
